Feel your best in lockdown life

10 Mins

So we’re in our 600th week of lockdown, everyone is getting used to working from home and the regular Zoom conference calls, the slack messaging, emails etc. etc.

Great that everyone is adapting, but we felt it was time to check-in and make sure we’re bringing in enough variety and activity into our lives during these times.

Chapter 1

Answer this quick question...

Do you feel the best that you could be right now?

If you answered quickly with a resounding YES this is great!! It is likely highlighting that you are getting away from your desk regularly, that you are taking your government allowed external exercise every day and sticking to a positive routine…great work!

If you didn’t, this article isn’t intended to preach to you, but to let you know we are here to help. We take the health and wellbeing of all Creditsafer’s seriously and have some great resources to get you feeling the best that you can.

For many, the adaption to working from home daily will have impacted the normal daily routine. Wake up times get later as a result of the removal of the need to commute, trips to the fridge to grab food that wouldn’t ordinarily be so freely available increase, but it doesn’t matter, it’s not forever right?

Wrong, it does matter. The lockdown has been in place for over a month, two in some countries, the change in habits detailed above can lead to the formation of bad habits that will affect; physical and mental health, and the ability to shift back into an ‘office routine’ once the world returns to some level of normality.

Chapter 1

3 relatively simple actions to combat this...

  1. Get up at the normal time that you would have to travel to work. If this means that you are up well before ‘starting work’ take the opportunity to get things done that you’ve been putting off. Reading that book that’s been on the shelf for months, the laundry, the ironing, going for a walk….ANYTHING! This will help to maintain your natural daily rhythm (or get back to it if its slipped). You’ll be surprised on the positive impact this simple step will take.
  2. Exercise! This whole article isn’t an elaborate pitch to increase numbers at the daily Creditsafe workout (at 8:30am – UK – email gareth.way@creditsafe.com for the Zoom invitation) – but you could do worse than joining the daily 15-20 minute workout that can be adapted for all experience, capability and fitness levels. If that’s not your ‘thing’ just find some way of getting out of your seat and moving for half an hour minimum per day. A walk, cleaning, gardening, anything to MOVE.
  3. Look after your posture. No matter where we are or what we are doing, our posture is super important. A poor posture can lead to aches and annoyances over time, so make sure you check in with yourself regularly. The heroes at the NHS are always there for us when we need them. They have some brilliant information around where we might be slipping into those poor postures and how we can rectify them with simple exercise. Check them out here.
