Quick & Easy Bread

50 Mins

If the craziness of what’s going on around you has meant that there’s no bread left on your supermarket shelves, then consider making it yourself! IT’S EASY – I PROMISE!

Most people have these few ingredients knocking around in the around in the pantry or kitchen cupboards and it’s actually really simple to make your own yeast-free bread in a matter of minutes.

So easy – I was able to knock-up a quick loaf with my 3-year old daughter Grace a couple days ago. Yes, Grace will probably feature heavily over the coming weeks, and yes I am going for “cute” likes!

Usually, I won’t be too fussy with measuring ingredients, but for this one, try and be as precise as possible, in order to achieve the best results!

Method

  1. Pre-heat an oven to 190C (fan) and place a heavy baking tray or stone into the oven to warm-up.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then add the milk and bring it together – use you hands, it’s easier! But make sure they’re clean – two lots of happy birthday’s and all that.
  3. Give it a little knead (push it out with the base of your palm and roll it around a bit) to make sure the milk is evenly distributed (Grace is holding our effort at this point).
  4. Shape the dough into a round disc approx.. 3cm thick (1 ½ inches) and score the top with a sharp knife.
  5. Whack it in the over for around 35 minutes until pale brown and it sounds hollow when you tap on the bottom.

As this is yeast-less bread it will not go golden brown so don’t wait for it. In addition expect quite a tightly packed loaf similar to soda bread for those of you who have ever visited Ireland. Served best thinly sliced.
